Lucid Recalls Over 20,000 Air Sedans Due To A Software Flaw

Lucid is recalling 27,185 Air sedans due to a software flaw in the lighting circuit that poses a fire risk. Owners should update their vehicle software immediately or park outside until the fix is installed.

The recall affects Lucid Air models produced between October 2021 and July 2026, spanning the 2022 through 2026 model years. The issue stems from a software flaw in the electronic fuse (eFuse) system, which may allow an exterior lighting circuit to remain energized while drawing excessive current. This overheating poses a significant fire hazard and may also lead to the failure of the center brake light or front lighting systems, thereby reducing vehicle visibility and increasing the risk of a collision. Owners are advised that even in the absence of immediate signs of failure, the potential for hazardous conditions persists.

Before the recall, Lucid recorded three front-lighting fires, four reports of smoke from the center brake light circuit, and 33 related warranty claims for damaged wiring harnesses.

Lucid has released an over-the-air update (version 2.10.0) to fix the eFuse software flaw, eliminating the need for a service center visit. As of the report, 20,719 of the 27,185 affected vehicles have been updated. Owners of the remaining 6,466 vehicles will receive notices by October 16 and are advised to park outdoors until the update is installed—a difficult requirement for those needing home charging.

Lucid has recently faced persistent challenges regarding vehicle reliability and safety. The company has previously been required to repurchase a problematic Lucid Air model from automotive content creator Jason Fenske, execute recalls due to unsecured half-shaft bolts, and address concerns involving potential power loss while driving in thousands of other units.
