BMW i3 And New 3-Series Pushes Away The i4 And 4-Series Gran Coupe
The electric BMW i3 is brand new, and the new combustion-engine 3 Series is, if possible, even younger. The arrival of the new duo immediately puts the BMW i4 and the 4 Series Gran Coupé at a disadvantage. The 4 Series Gran Coupé is based on the platform of the previous 3 Series, whereas the i4 is an electric derivative of that fuel-powered model.
The pair is therefore not destined for a long life. Production of the 4 Series Gran Coupé and i4 will stop in February 2027. The new BMW 3 Series, the i3, and the i3 Touring will take over their roles. It is striking that BMW explicitly does not mention a ‘BMW 3 Series Touring’ in this context, although we can hardly imagine that this station wagon variant would not appear on the market. The 4 Series and i4 do not appear to be direct successors.
