Low Visibility Causes Multiple-vehicle Collision Involving 200 Vehicles On Chinese Bridge - autojosh

One dead as low visibility from heavy fog caused huge pile up of 200 vehicles on Chinese Zhengxin Huanghe bridge.

Vehicles travelling in both directions of the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge were involved in numerous crashes.

Zhengxin Huanghe Bridge, which connects Zhengzhou and neighboring Xinxiang, was later closed to all traffic. 





One person reportedly killed on Wednesday, the 28th of December 2022, in a multiple-vehicle collision involving more than 200 vehicles in the city of Zhengzhou, in China’s central Henan province.

According to state-owned The Global Times, the accident was caused by low visibility from heavy fog, which was less than 500 metres on Wednesday morning and down to 200 metres in some areas.

An aerial footage posted on social media showed several types of vehicles, including cars, vans and trucks, crumpled and piled on top of one another on the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge.

Vehicles travelling in both directions of the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge were involved in numerous crashes. The Zhengxin Huanghe Bridge, which connects Zhengzhou and neighboring Xinxiang, was later closed to all traffic by the Police.





The Chinese fire department sent 11 fire trucks and 66 fire rescue personnel to the scene to help many of the injured, who were trapped in their vehicles, state media reported.

A Twitter user wrote:

“There was a huge pileup involving 400+ vehicles on Zhengxin Huanghe Bridge (郑新黄河大桥) — which connects Henan’s Zhengzhou and Xinxiang across the Yellow River — due to dense fog and icy road surface at around 10am Dec 28 morning…”
