Menace Of One-way Driving : Danfo Driver Driving Against Traffic Kills Private Car Owner In Lagos
Menace of one-way driving : Lagos commercial bus driver driving against traffic collide with private car, killing the owner instantly.
In addition to disrupting free flow of traffic, driving against traffic also endangers the lives and property of other road users.

A Lagos commercial bus driver driving against traffic (one-way driving) collided with a Honda Civic around the Meiran area of Lagos State on Thursday, killing the driver of the private car instantly.
Speaking about the unfortunate incident, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Bolaji Oreagba said :
“According to the LASTMA officials at the scene of the accident which occurred around 9:30 am, the driver of the Honda Civic sustained a serious neck injury which resulted in his death on the spot.
“The LASTMA Officials, as first emergency responders, later confirmed that the dead driver was living inside Meiran Estate which is close to the scene of the accident and handed over the corpse of the deceased to his family from the estate”, he added.
The General Manager, therefore, reiterated the need for all motorists and vehicle owners in the State to desist from disobeying traffic laws, particularly by driving against the traffic on a one-way road.
This incident comes barely a week after the Lagos State Government unconditionally released some commercial vehicles impounded for driving one-way to their owners to enable them to get back on the roads in pursuit of their daily bread.
Before now, vehicles impounded by the Lagos State’s task force for flouting traffic rules and regulations, especially those driving against the flow of traffic, are auctioned off to the public.
Speaking during a public auction of impounded vehicles last year, the Chairman of the agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye, said driving against traffic will not only disrupt the free flow of traffic but also endangers the lives and property of other road users in the State.
He said :
“From our records, 80% of hit-and-run victims on Lagos roads were knocked down by motorists who drove against traffic, especially in the early hours of the day”.
