63-year-old Ferrari Enzo’s Designer Caught Over-speeding In The $3 Million Supercar, Escapes Jail

63-year-old Ferrari Enzo’s designer escape jail after being caught over-speeding in the $3 Million supercar.
Kiyoyuki Okuyama was clocked by police at 128 km/h last October in Japan, a full 88 km/h over the speed limit of 40 km/h.
He admitted to over-speeding, saying he drove fast to expose the Ferrari’s V12 engine to fast-moving air to cool it down.
In addition to designing Enzo Ferrari, Okuyama helped design the new generation of Porsche 911 as well as the Boxster.
Ferrari Enzo’s legendary Japanese designer, Ken Kiyoyuki Okuyama, received a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years after being caught over-speeding in the rare $3 Million supercar he designed.
Okuyama was clocked by police at 128 km/h (79 mph) last October in northeastern Japan, a full 88 km/h (54 mph) over the speed limit of 40 km/h (25 mph) while behind the wheel of his Ferrari Enzo sports car model that he designed.
Japan Times reports that the 63 year old industrial designer admitted to over-speeding, saying he drove fast to expose the Ferrari’s V12 engine to fast-moving air to cool it down.
While handing down the ruling, Judge Osamu Imai said “the degree of speeding was considerable and was extremely dangerous,” adding that the term was suspended because Okuyama admitted to the charge.
Okuyama told reporters : “I will make sure this will never happen again and will contribute to society. I am very sorry.”
The Ferrari Enzo (Type F140), also marketed as Enzo Ferrari, is a mid-engine sports car powered by a 651-horsepower 6.0-liter V-12, which allows a 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top-speed of 355 km/h (221 mph).
In addition to designing Enzo Ferrari while at Pininfarina, Okuyama worked for General Motors and Porsche, helping design the new generation of the Porsche 911 (aka 996) as well as the Boxster.
