LASG spent N440M on armored Lexus LX 600 for Chief of Staff’, ADC’s Funso Doherty tackles Sanwo-Olu on Lagos procurements.

Funso Doherty, a Chartered Accountant and the Governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, has written to Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on projects funded with taxpayers’ money.

In an open letter addressed to the Sanwo-Olu and shared on his X page, Doherty listed some projects awarded by the state government that “require greater scrutiny”.

“I just wrote an open letter to the Governor on Public Procurement awards reported by LASG for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023, highlighting a number of issues for further scrutiny and remedial action. Judicious use of public funds is always important, and is especially so now,” he posted on X.

In the letter, Funso Doherty cited many purchases, including the N83,796,250 awarded for the purchase of 5 brand new 2023 Mikano Changan Dynamic sedans for “5 lucky winners in the senior category during the recently concluded Y2023 Public Service Week.”

But the one that caught our eye is the over N440 million budgeted for the procurement of a brand new armored Lexus LX 600 ultra-luxury SUV for use in the Pool of Office of Chief of Staff.

“Another sum of N440,750,000 was awarded to the office of the chief of staff for the “procurement of a brand new Lexus LX 600 Bullet Proof Sport Utility Vehicle for use in the Pool of Office of Chief,” Doherty wrote.

Commenting on the N440 million spent on the purchase of a brand new armored Lexus LX 600 SUV for use in the Pool of Office of Chief, Doherty said :

“This appears excessive and is out-of-tune with both the prevailing economic circumstances and mood of the people. It should be srutinized as to the need and justification for such a vehicle purchase and also value-for-money.”
