BYD just celebrated its 6 millionth NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) car rolling off the assembly line. The car in question is a Bao 5 model from BYD’s Fangchengbao sub-brand. BYD took a commemorative photo and thanked all the people—travelers and supporters—who have helped make this possible. BYD adds that it’s the first car company to achieve 6 million new energy vehicles.

It took BYD 13 years to reach the 1 million NEV milestone. Last year, on November 16, the carmaker saw its 3 millionth NEV unit produced. In August of this year, BYD announced it had produced its 5 millionth NEV, and now, a little over three months later, it’s sitting at number 6. BYD is China’s biggest new energy vehicle maker. It stopped making combustion engine-only vehicles in March 2022 and since then has been making only plug-in hybrids and EVs.

BYD sold a record 301,833 NEVs in October, the first time it has surpassed the 300,000-unit mark and the sixth consecutive month of record highs. From January to October, BYD sold 2,381,471 NEVs, up 70.36 percent year-on-year.

Up to now, BYD’s NEVs have entered 58 overseas markets, including Germany, Japan, France, Brazil, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates, with overseas sales totaling more than 200,000 units.
