Yuletide : Lagos Blue and Red Lines are part of FG’s free train ride initiative, says the Acting MD of the NRC.
But LAMATA, which manages the both the Blue Line and Red Line, hasn’t confirm their inclusion in the FG’s free train ride initiative.
The first of the electrified LRMT Lagos Blue Line spans 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2.
The Red Line first phase spans 27 kilometers between Agbado – Oyingbo, reduces travel times to 55 minutes.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has disclosed that the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) train services is part in the Federal Government’s free train ride initiative for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
This was made known by Ben Iloanusi, the Acting Managing Director of the NRC, in an interview on NTA News TV on Friday, following the launch of the free train ride initiative on Thursday December 19th 2024.
“Let me mention the routes where this free train service is happening. We have the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service, we have the Kaduna-Abuja Train Service, we have the Warri-Itakpe Train Service, we have the Lagos Rail Mass Transit trains, we have the Port Harcourt-Aba Train Service, and we have what we call the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Mass Transit, which is also in Lagos,” he stated.

Ben Iloanusi noted that passengers using train services managed by NRC (excluding the LRMT) should reserve their tickets via the official website, www.nrc.gov.ng, with a valid ID required.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), which manages the Phase 1 of both the Blue Line and Red Line Rail projects, hasn’t confirm there inclusion in the Federal Government’s free train ride initiative.
The first of the electrified Lagos Blue Line spans 13 kilometers from Marina to Mile 2, while the first phase of the Red Line spans 27-km between Agbado – Oyingbo and reduces travel times to 55 minutes from close to three hours.
