Earlier this week, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sanctioned the Ondo State Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, after a viral video exposed one of the Corps’ patrol vehicles operating with a worn-out tyre.
To reinforce accountability, the FRSC said that the patrol vehicle involved will be fined for the safety infraction while the Sector Commander will be made to pay the fines for negligence – which is the exact punishment metted to motorists for the infraction.
Founded in 1988, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) operates in all Nigerian states as well as the Federal Capital Territory. Its statutory functions includes making the highways safe for motorists and other road users as well as checking road worthiness of vehicles.
In exercising these functions, members of the Commission have the power to arrest and prosecute persons reasonably suspected of having committed any traffic offence.
