Acura RSX Makes A Return As An Electric Coupe SUV (Prototype)

Acura has been announcing the return of the RSX for some time now, but that new model arrives in the form of an electric coupe-SUV and will be Acura’s first model built on an all-new dedicated EV platform.

Unlike the Acura ZDX, which borrows its underpinnings from General Motors, the new RSX will be based on Honda’s newly developed EV architecture, a significant step forward for the automaker’s electrification plans.

The EV platform developed by Honda has already been shown at this year’s CES in Las Vegas, as it is based on the Honda 0 Series prototypes. Honda’s goal with its new platform will be to create lighter vehicles, as well as reduce the overall height that most EVs require to mount the batteries in the floor.

The new Acura RSX will also be the first EV produced at Honda’s new “EV Hub” in Ohio (USA).

When asked why the company decided to revive the RSX name for an electric SUV rather than a sports car, a spokesperson said, “We believe RSX is the right name for our new all-electric SUV. This is not a ‘revival’ of the previous RSX coupe.”

Acura hasn’t confirmed an exact release date for the new RSX (it’s expected “sometime next year”), but the RSX Prototype in striking Propulsion Yellow Pearl is now on display at the Monterey Car Week event.

The RSX will also be able to power a variety of devices, including home appliances, and provide backup power for the home.

With four-wheel drive and two electric motors, sport-tuned suspension, a low center of gravity and Brembo brakes, the RSX promises to deliver a fun and engaging driving experience.

The Acura RSX Prototype takes full advantage of the extreme design freedom of stance and proportions offered by the company’s next-generation electric vehicle platform, pushing the boundaries of Acura’s design even further with an expressive coupe-like silhouette, powerful proportions and high-tech details.

The front is bold and distinctive – developing the brand’s unique “Diamond Pentagon” design language with a more dramatic light signature.

The dramatic roofline creates a sense of speed with deeply sculpted side surfaces, flush door handles, and an integrated ducktail-style rear spoiler. The RSX emphasizes its wide, athletic stance with flared wheel arches and large 21-inch wheels, accentuating large front Brembo brakes with bright red calipers.
