China’s EV maker Xpeng unveils next-gen robot that walks like a lady, cuts open to show no one is inside.

Features humanoid spine and bionic muscles, allowing it to achieved “ultra-realistic anthropomorphism”.

XPENG’s humanoid robot is expected to be the first to achieve large-scale mass production.

Last week, XPENG held its 2025 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day in Guangzhou, where its next-gen humanoid robot, IRON, made a stunning debut with its highly human-like appearance and catwalk-like graceful gait.

IRON’s ability to perform high-difficulty human-like actions made many in attendance at the event to wonder : “Is there really a real person hidden inside that female robot?”

To clear up all the doubts, Xpeng’s CEO, He Xiaopeng, took to the stage to personally cut part of the robot’s leg covering, revealing the mechanical structure and wiring of the humanoid robot.

Thanks to its humanoid spine and bionic muscles, the Next-Gen IRON has achieved “ultra-realistic anthropomorphism” in both appearance and thinking interaction, compared with the first-generation IRON.

XPENG’s humanoid robot is expected to be the first to achieve large-scale mass production. Xiaopeng said, “By the end of 2026, XPENG aims to achieve large-scale mass production of high-level humanoid robots.”

Also at the event, Xpeng also unveiled three other important applications centered around “Physical AI”, including XPENG VLA 2.0, Level 4 Robotaxi – which allows a vehicle to perform all driving tasks without human intervention, and two sets of flying systems from ARIDGE.

“These four AI applications already have clear mass production plans, indicating that ‘Physical AI’ is not a distant dream but a reality within everyone’s reach,” Xpeng said in a statement.
