Despite Its Stated 1064 Horsepower, The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Has Greater Power
The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 turned out to be stronger than officially announced, according to tests by the famous tuning company Hennessey. While Chevrolet quotes an impressive 1,064 hp, dyno measurements revealed even more exciting numbers.
After the experts from Hennessey drove the necessary 3,200 kilometers to develop the vehicle, their ZR1 example showed as much as 1,051 horsepower—and that was measured at the wheels. This fact is especially important because cars typically lose between 10 and 15 percent of power in the transmission from the engine to the wheels.
Taking into account the usual transmission losses, these results suggest that the engine’s actual output could reach around 1,150 hp, which is almost 100 horsepower more than the officially published specification.
Although measurements can vary depending on a number of factors, all indications are that Chevrolet has likely intentionally conservatively estimated the power of its latest supercar. This practice is not uncommon among high-end car manufacturers, who sometimes prefer to surprise customers with more power than risk not delivering on what they promised.
