A New Sedan and Updated Gas Models Are Part of Chevy’s Five-Year Plan
General Motors is shifting Chevrolet’s strategy through 2030, pivoting toward a performance ICE sedan—potentially reviving the Camaro name—while refreshing its current gasoline and EV lineups.
The upcoming sedan is reportedly slated for a 2028 debut. While the official nomenclature remains undecided, industry speculation suggests it could revive the iconic Camaro nameplate. This potential move would position the vehicle as a direct competitor to Ford’s anticipated Mustang Mach-4, extending the long-standing muscle car rivalry into the four-door segment while serving as a spiritual successor to the discontinued Camaro and Malibu models.
According to Automotive News, Chevy’s upcoming rear-wheel-drive sedan will be built at GM’s Lansing Grand River plant alongside future Buick and Cadillac CT5 models. Analysts suggest the sedan will help diversify Chevrolet’s truck- and SUV-heavy portfolio, with Mobility Global’s Stephanie Brinley noting it could still provide a meaningful contribution to the brand.
Chevrolet is scaling back new EV launches through 2030 due to slow adoption and expiring tax credits. The Bolt EV will be discontinued next year to make room for a new gas-powered crossover in Kansas. However, the brand remains committed to its current electric lineup, with upcoming refreshes for the Blazer EV and Equinox EV, while the Silverado EV continues production. Moving forward, Chevrolet will focus on refreshing existing models with powertrain updates and cosmetic enhancements rather than introducing new EVs
Chevy’s only planned EV this decade is a Hyundai-partnered commercial van, as the brand pauses new EV nameplates to refine its current lineup. Meanwhile, the next-generation Corvette is expected in 2029.
