Genesis GV80 Now Comes In A New Hybrid Powertrain
Genesis is launching a new hybrid powertrain for the GV80. Featuring a liquid-cooled battery, this system offers a balance of improved fuel efficiency and performance comparable to the V6 model, positioning the SUV as a strong competitor in the luxury market.
The new hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with two electric motors to produce 357 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. This setup offers a 16% power boost and 26% more torque than the standard engine, with a 0-62 mph time of 7.1 seconds. The system prioritizes efficiency, with internal testing suggesting a 25% fuel economy improvement over the gas-only model, resulting in an estimated 27 mpg combined.
While it faces stiff competition from the 30 mpg Lincoln Nautilus and 36 mpg Lexus RX, the GV80’s exact fuel efficiency remains subject to final EPA ratings.
Genesis has introduced a new hybrid powertrain for the GV80, featuring a liquid-cooled battery and EV Mode for improved efficiency and a quieter, smoother drive. The 2.5L turbo engine produces 357 hp, offering significant performance gains. Alongside the mechanical updates, Genesis is refreshing the SUV with new two-tone interior options, updated trim, and a unique hybrid grille, though U.S. availability for these design changes is yet to be confirmed.
“We expect the new powertrain to deliver a differentiated driving experience by achieving a finely tuned balance of efficiency, refinement, and performance,” stated Sean Lee, Global Head of Genesis. “Beginning with the GV80 Hybrid, Genesis will continue to respond proactively to evolving market conditions and customer needs while introducing innovative technologies that embody the brand’s distinctive character and philosophy.”
While pricing details have not yet been released, the adoption of a non-plug-in hybrid system suggests that the GV80 will likely be more competitively priced than comparable plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offerings in its segment.
