More Money: Porsche Completes Bugatti-Rimac Sale, Rakes In €1 Billion
Volkswagen-owned Porsche completes Bugatti-Rimac sale, rakes in €1 billion.
Automaker plans to use €250 million of the proceeds to further fund its pension obligations.
Porsche completed the sale of its stakes in Bugatti Rimac and Rimac Group on September 9, 2026, generating proceeds of around €1 billion. The automaker planned to use €250 million of the proceeds to further fund its pension obligations.
The sale marks the German luxury automaker’s exit from Bugatti Rimac, the high-performance joint venture created in 2021 to combine the legendary French hypercar marque Bugatti with Croatian electric-performance specialist Rimac.
“Taking into account the aforementioned cash inflow and the further funding of pension obligations, the Automotive Net Cash Flow Margin for full year 2026 is expected to increase from 5.5 to 7.5 per cent (previous forecast: 3 to 5 per cent),” Porsche said in a statement.
Before its exit, Porsche had held a 45 percent stake in Bugatti Rimac, while Rimac Group controlled the remaining 55 percent. Porsche also owned a 20 percent stake in Rimac Group, giving it exposure to both sides of the partnership.
The German automaker’s decision to sell comes as Porsche continues to navigate a challenging period for the global automotive industry, with the company noting that the move will allow it to focus on its “core business.”
“Now, with the sale of our stake, we demonstrate that we will focus Porsche on the core business. We would like to thank Mate Rimac and his team for the constructive and trusting cooperation over the past years,” Porsche boss Michael Leiters said in April.
With the sale to a consortium led by New York-based HOF Capital, Volkswagen Group has ended its 28-year relationship with the Bugatti brand, which it has owned through Porsche since 1998.
