Aspark Owl SP600 becomes world’s fastest electric car after hitting a new record speed of 272.59 mph (438.7 km/h).

During its second attempt on June 8th 2024, the Aspark Owl SP600 reached a top speed of 272 mph (437.8 kph).

SP600 is an evolution of the original Aspark OWL, which also set new records last year on 24 May 2023 in the UK.

Aspark notes that the SP600 hypercar is still in the prototype form, though there are plans to make it a production car.

The Aspark Owl SP600 is now officially the fastest electric hypercar in the world after managing to reach a top speed of 272.59 mph (438.7 km/h) on a long road in Germany.

Behind the wheels of the SP600 was German racing driver, Marc Basseng, who reached a top speed of 272 mph (437.8 km/h) at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany during the second attempt on the 8th of June, 2024.

Speaking about the new EV record, Aspark CEO, Masanori Yoshida, said :

“It has been about 10 years since we started working on the OWL Hypercar. We aimed for the world’s fastest accelerating car, then attempted and achieved the top speed world records today with our new hypercar OWL SP600. This technical capability inspires all involved to personal excellence and to challenge and grow in leaps and bounds into the future.”

According to the company, the SP600 is an evolution of the original record-breaking £2.5million Aspark OWL, which also set new records last year on 24 May 2023 in the United Kingdom (UK).

Aspark notes that the SP600 hypercar, manufactured by Italy’s Manifattura Automobili Torino, is still in the prototype form, though there are plans to make it a production car.

While the SP600 is faster than a 258mph-mph Rimac Nevera, the Japanese hypercar still lags behind the Bugatti’s record-setting long-tail Chiron Super Sport prototype that broke the 300 mph barrier back in 2019, after reaching a new top speed of 304.773-mph.
