At Least 3 Died And 20 More Injured In A 60-Vehicle Accident In An Icy Pennsylvania Expressway

Officials announced Monday that three individuals have been confirmed deceased and 20 have been sent to the hospital as a result of a 50 to 60-vehicle pile-up on a Pennsylvania freeway.
Following the incident on I-81 in Schuykill County on Monday morning, a major casualty event was announced.
Just before 11 a.m., an accident was recorded near the icy interstate’s Exit 116. Since then, the road has been reopened.
Matt Catrillo, a journalist for a local radio station, tweeted shortly after the tragedy that many vehicles were still on fire and people were trapped.
Following the incident, emergency crews traveled over six miles of treacherous, snow-covered highway to extricate motorists from their automobiles, several of which were on fire, according to responding rescue officials.
The cause of the incident is unknown at this time, however the area was suffering terrible snow conditions at the time, and motorists seen in film captured at the scene of the crash can be heard talking about the hazardous weather, which left them with little visibility.
Multiple trucks and cars slam into a mound of wrecked vehicles already blocking the road, according to shocking video obtained at the scene of the disaster.
The pile of twisted metal, along with low visibility and poor traction caused by the rain, sets off a chain reaction of wrecks that lasts several minutes and ensnares multiple trucks and more than a dozen cars, according to the clip.
A person is nearly struck by his own automobile after it is hit by another vehicle sent reeling during the turmoil at one point in the film, while cars are being propelled down the ice by the power of many collisions.
The automobiles almost miss the driver, who flees into the trees alongside the roadway with many others.
‘This is ridiculous,’ said Mike Moye, who captured the incident on Facebook Live after witnessing it.
