Audi Recorded Lower First Quarter Profits
Audi, the German car manufacturer, saw a significant rise in sales but reported a smaller profit in early 2025 compared to the disappointing first quarter of 2024. As part of the Volkswagen Group, the company is now counting on new models for future success.
The Audi Group, which in addition to its core Audi car brand also includes the Bentley, Lamborghini and Ducati brands, ended the first quarter of this year with a net profit of 630 million euros. This is 14.4 percent less than a year ago, the company announced today.
Audi attributed the deterioration in results to increased competition and political uncertainty. “This year will remain very challenging due to the global economic situation,” CEO Gernot Dolner said, according to German news agency dpa.
The fact that the profit decline was not even greater is partly due to the fact that the comparable figures for the same period last year were already extremely weak. At the time, Audi had more than halved its profits, partly because the company was facing a shortage of parts for its important and profitable engines. Lamborghini’s good performance also contributed to the results.
The new models that Audi recently introduced were not enough to reverse the trend of falling profits. However, sales in the first quarter rose relatively significantly, amounting to 15.4 billion euros, which is 12.4 percent more than a year ago.
Dolner expressed his expectation that the new models would improve business results later in the year. The model offensive is now “gradually coming to global markets,” he said. At the same time, Audi has “taken decisive steps to reposition its company,” Dolner added.
This includes massive layoffs in Germany. In March, Audi announced that it would cut up to 7,500 jobs at its German plants by 2029 and reduce profit sharing among employees in the coming years. The layoffs could begin in the second quarter of this year.
