BAIC BJ90 : Innoson Should Make This Luxurious Mercedes GL-based SUV

Luxurious Chinese-made BAIC BJ90 Is Based On Mercedes-Benz GL-Class Sports Utility Vehicle…. 

Meet the BAIC Beijing BJ90 SUV that can best be described as an official clone of the discontinued Mercedes-Benz GL-Class.

Known official as the BAIC BJ90, the full-size luxury SUV is based on the second generation Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, now known as Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV.

BAIC was able to acquire the specs of the Mercedes-Benz SUV as the foundation for the BJ90 due to the Beijing Auto and Daimler Mercedes-Benz joint venture (Daimler owns a 12% stake in BAIC Motor).

Compared to the GL-Class, the BJ90 is about 52 mm (2.0 in) taller, 61 mm (2.4 in) wider, 51 mm (2.0 in) longer than the GL-Class.

Interior designs such as the instrument panel and the seats were also taken from Mercedes-Benz. Beijing Auto only changed the steering wheel design and equipped the BJ90 with a bigger screen.

The BJ90 is powered by Mercedes-Benz sourced 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 333hp, from the GL400. A 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 421hp, from the GL500 is also available.

It is paired to Mercedes-sourced seven-speed automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels via the Mercedes-Benz 4matic four-wheel-drive system.

The luxurious Chinese-made BAIC BJ90 is part of China President’s convoy, along with two one-off Hongqi N501 armoured limousines.

BJ90 starts at 800 thousand yuan ( or about ₦40.8 million, excluding destination and clearing cost).

Innoson is currently not selling the BJ90 in the Nigerian and African market. It’s fast selling IVM G40 and G80 vehicles are based on BAIC’s BJ40 and BJ80 SUVs respectively.

If Innoson introduces the BAIC BJ90 into the Nigerian market, the Mercedes GL-based SUV will be the largest as well as the most expensive model from the Nigerian automaker.
