Bugatti Requested More Than 13,000 Euros To Replace The Mirror Switch, But The Owner Just Paid 1 Euro To Fix It.

Owning a hyper sports car like the Bugatti Veyron means that even the smallest technical failure can lead to a significant financial loss. However, as British supercar dealer Carl Hartley demonstrates, with some persistence and creativity, enjoying luxury doesn’t always have to come at an extravagant price.
Hartley, the owner of the British company Tom Hartley Cars, revealed in a recent interview that servicing a Bugatti cost him up to £100,000 a year (about €117,000), and one regular service cost him £30,000. However, one of the most bizarre moments happened when the simple switch for adjusting the rearview mirror broke on his Veyron.
The switch became wobbly over time, leading the owner of this exclusive model to seek a replacement. However, Bugatti’s official quote was £9,500 plus tax, totaling around £11,400 or €13,400. The service center claimed this high cost was due to needing to replace the entire door lining, the rearview mirror motor, and the complete inner assembly of the rearview mirror.
Hartley then decided to contact a friend with experience as a mechanic in a Formula 1 team. Together, they found the source of the problem: a modest mechanical element that is also used in other models from the Volkswagen range, specifically the VW Transporter. The part comes in a pack of five, and the cost of the kit was just £0.89, or €1.05. To make matters better, the replacement only took 20 minutes.
“In such situations, I recommend that Bugatti owners rely on independent, proven workshops,” said Hartley. “Sometimes an official service will make you pay for an exclusive that isn’t.”
