Cargo Ship Carrying 4,000 Luxury Cars Sink Into Atlantic Ocean, 2-wks After Catching Fire

US-bound ship carrying 4,000 vehicles, sink to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, 2-weeks after catching fire.

The ship, named Felicity Ace, was transporting around 4,000 VW Group cars, including Porsches and Bentleys.

189 Bentleys, 1,000+ Porsches, Lamborghinis, rows of VW and Audi cars went down with the Cargo ship.

The lost vehicles, including the discontinued Lamborghini Aventador, will need to be built again.

Felicity Ace, a cargo ship containing nearly 4,000 Volkswagen Group cars, has sunk off the Portuguese Azores archipelago, nearly two weeks after it caught fire.

The vessel was transporting around 4,000 cars, including Porsches, Audis, Lamborghinis and Bentleys, from German port to Rhode Island in the United States when it caught fire in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

We earlier reported that all of its 22 crew members were evacuated by Portugal’s navy and Airforce when the fire broke out near the mid-Atlantic Azores Islands on February 16.

Volkswagen Group said the damage to the vehicles was covered by insurance, which could cost around $155 million, according to Reuters.

Bentley Motors, a unit of Volkswagen AG, confirmed that 189 of its cars were onboard, while another subsidiary, Porsche said it had about 1,100 of its models onboard.

The initial plan was to haul the massive ship closer to the Azores so that it could be more thoroughly inspected before being towed back to the coast of Portugal.

Sadly, all 189 Bentleys, over 1,000 Porsches, several dozen Lamborghinis and several rows of VW and Audi cars went down with the Cargo ship into the Atlantic Ocean.

There are reports that Lamborghini will resume production of the V12 Aventador, months after announcing its discontinuation. The lost custom Porsche and Bentley cars will also need to be built again.
