Chery’s Jaecoo 7 And Omoda 7 PHEV SUVs Set New UK Real-world Distance Records

Chery’s Jaecoo 7 SHS-P and Omoda 7 SHS-P have completed an authenticated, real-world fuel economy test in the UK overseen by Webfleet, with both models beating their official WLTP range figures by 11.14% and 10% respectively.

During a two-day economy challenge held at UTAC Millbrook, the Jaecoo 7 PHEV covered 828 miles, beating its official WLTP range of 745 miles. This total distance included 56 miles of electric-only driving powered by its 18.3 kWh battery pack.

Meanwhile, the Omoda 7 SHS-P covered 770 miles on a single tank and charge without stopping, surpassing its official WLTP figure of over 700 miles, which includes a 56-mile pure electric range from an 18.3 kWh battery pack.

Both the Jaecoo 7 SHS-P and Omoda 7 SHS-P are powered by the Chery Group’s Super Hybrid System (SHS) plug-in powertrain, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an 18.3kWh battery-pack.

According to Omoda & Jaecoo UK, these record drives highlighted the effectiveness of the two vehicles’ fifth-generation Super Hybrid System (SHS), designed to combine strong real-world efficiency with long-distance usability and everyday practicality.

Following the economy challenge, the Jaecoo 7 SHS-P has proven to be the only plug-in hybrid SUV currently on sale in the UK capable of exceeding 800 miles of total range. The entry-level PHEV variant starts at approximately £35,000, while the Omoda 7 SHS-P is available from just over £32,000.

Speaking on the record drive, Kevin Booker, lead economy driver in the challenge, said : “Having driven the SHS-P system in the OMODA 9, where we travelled through nine countries on one tank and one charge, I knew the OMODA 7 and JAECOO 7 would have the potential to surpass their official WLTP figures. The challenge was proving it.”

Since September 2025, the Jaecoo 7 has consistently featured among the UK’s top ten best-selling vehicles, with more than 46,000 vehicles sold to UK drivers since launch in January 2025. Together, Omoda and Jaecoo recorded 52,828 vehicle registrations in the first six months of 2026.
