Bugatti Isn’t Quitting On The W16 Engine Yet
Bugatti seemed to be waving goodbye to the famous W16 about four years ago, but then nonchalantly continued releasing cars with that engine. Now another one is on the way.
The ‘end of an era’ – that is what we called the Bugatti Mistral four years ago. It was supposed to be the final chapter of the W16. Or so it seemed, at least, because history teaches us that the W16 simply ended up in newer Bugattis afterwards. Just earlier this year, for example, in the extraordinary reborn Bugatti Veyron. Last year, the W16 also returned, in the Bugatti Brouillard, which was likewise derived from the Chiron. Now, another Bugatti with a W16 is on the way.
Bugatti shared this teaser photo on social media and previously shared a shadowy video showing the W16 on the engine cover. This is likely another one-off derived from the Chiron. After all, it is a creation of Bugatti’s ‘Programme Solitaire’. Bet on a car in the spirit of the Mistral and Brouillard. Incidentally, Bugatti’s new ‘volume model’, the Tourbillon, is equipped with a V16 instead of a W16. So, in that respect too, the sixteen-cylinder is still very much alive.
