Chevrolet Takes The Button Wall Out Of The Updated Corvette

The current Chevrolet Corvette is almost six years old, so you would expect it to be time for a facelift. According to Chevrolet, it is not yet, but it is making a series of adjustments to the model.

The current generation Chevrolet Corvette (C8) caused some controversy among hardcore Corvette fans when it was introduced. The Corvette no longer had the engine in the front but behind the front seats. Another thing that not everyone was happy about was the ‘wall’ in the interior that rose from the center armrest to the dashboard. The Corvette driver did not complain so much about the fact that the front passenger and driver were separated from each other, but rather about the series of buttons housed in the back of that wall. Chevrolet proves to be sensitive to criticism and has now expertly removed the ‘wall of buttons’ from the Corvette.

The button facade has disappeared, but in its place, we still find a reinforcement beam that rises at the same angle. Some of the buttons that were there, especially those relating to the climate control, have been moved to a new horizontal button island under the ventilation system outlets that are located under the infotainment screen. The buttons for the seat heating have disappeared and returned in virtual form on the infotainment screen.

Also new: the center tunnel now has two cup holders in the place where a storage compartment used to be; the rotary knob and the associated hand rest for selecting the driving mode have been moved, together with the buttons for selecting the ride height at the front and the button for the camera, to a place closer to the driver in the center tunnel. The space thus freed up is now filled by an inductive charger.

More news concerns the displays behind the steering wheel. The infotainment screen is now 12.7 inches and has to do without a physical Home button; the instrument cluster is ‘less thick,’ packaged and covered, and has grown to a diagonal of 14 inches. New is the 6.6-inch display on the left side of the infotainment screen. On that new screen, information can be read about things like the G-forces that currently apply to the car. Google Android and Apple CarPlay are now part of the package.

Smaller news: new colours and materials have been devised to equip and finish the interior. For example, it is now possible to have the driver’s seat in red and the front passenger seat in black.
