While We Are Complaining About Lagos Traffic, UK Loses Over £37 Billion Yearly To Traffic
According to a study, UK is the 10th busiest road in the world and 3rd most congested road in Europe.
It has been estimated by a study that almost £37.7 billion is gulped by traffic jams. A rough estimate of £1,168 per driver. This isn’t good on the Brits.
Analysis by Inrix also ranked UK roads as the 10th most congested in the world last year, with drivers spending an average of 31 hours stuck in traffic jams.
Motorists travelling in London were heaviest hit by traffic jams: the capital was the second most congested city in Europe in 2017 – beaten only by Moscow – and the seventh worst in the world.
London drivers spent an average of 74 hours stuck in traffic last year during peak hours, costing individuals £2,430; the cost to city as a whole was estimated at £9.5 billion. During peak hours, the capital’s traffic was travelling at under 5mph 23 per cent of the time, while the A406 between Chiswick roundabout and Hanger Lane was the capital’s most congested road.
Britain’s drivers can take consolation from Russia and Turkey, whose drivers spent 41 and 32 hours stuck in traffic jams during peak hours respectively.
