Ford Recalls Several Vehicles Over Defective Ecoboost That Can Cut Power

Published

on

Just days after thousands of Bronco Sports and Mavericks were recalled due to a problem where suspension parts might come loose, Ford issued another significant recall this month. Although it concerns fewer vehicles, the most recent recall is just as dangerous. In essence, a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine failure might result in an abrupt loss of drive power in some Explorer, Ranger, and Bronco vehicles. This is all the information that owners of these cars should be aware of.

Engine Recall For Ford EcoBoost

Certain Ford cars with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine have an engine camshaft roller finger follower that might come loose from the valve stem, according to the recall report on the NHTSA’s website. Ford discovered that during engine assembly, one or more of these camshaft roller fingers might have been fitted incorrectly, potentially leading to engine failure. This may cause the car to lose motive power or fail to start, which could raise the risk of an accident. Ford is currently aware of three field reports and nine warranty claims about this engine flaw.

The following models and model years are affected:

  • 2025-2026 Ford Bronco (408 units)
  • 2025-2026 Ford Explorer (895 units)
  • 2025-2026 Ford Ranger (233 units)

The recall covers 1,536 Ford vehicles in total. It’s interesting to note that despite using a 2.3-liter engine, the Ford Mustang has not been recalled. However, because the engines might be lacking a piston pin circlip, a small number of Mustangs with this engine were included in a recall earlier this year. Once more, a flaw in the assembly process was connected to this issue. There are many tuning states for this usually responsive engine. It generates 270 horsepower for the Ranger and 300 horsepower for the Bronco and Explorer.

Ford will replace the engine long block at no cost to consumers as a solution. Regrettably, a remedy won’t be ready for some months.

What Owners Need To Do Right Now

Anyone who owns a Bronco, Explorer, or Ranger with the 2.3-liter engine should watch out for ticking or tapping engine noise as well as a low-volume engine leak when the car is running. The check engine light may also illuminate.

Owners will receive a letter on June 15, 2026, but if they want to be extra cautious, they may use their vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA website to see if their car is part of the recall; these VINs were made searchable on May 28. For additional information, owners can call the Ford customer support line at 1-866-436-7332. Ford anticipates sending out remedy notification letters, but only starting on November 30, 2026—roughly when the patch will be available. For anyone who could be experiencing engine breakdown right now, that is a long way off.

Ford’s quality control problems, which have resulted in an unprecedented number of recalls over the past few years, are once again clouded by the EcoBoost’s problems with faulty production methods.
