Despite Four Attempts To Fix The Brakes, The Owner Of A Ford Maverick Blames The Crash On Them

Over 82,000 Ford Maverick Hybrids in the U.S. may suffer from intermittent loss of anti-lock and regenerative braking, according to a petition filed with the NHTSA.

On July 20, the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition calling for a defect investigation into 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrids. The petitioner, an owner of the hybrid truck, alleges that they were involved in a collision due to the loss of the Maverick’s anti-lock and regenerative braking features.

The petitioner asserts that the vehicle remained defective despite four repair attempts, which rendered the truck out of service for over 50 days. Furthermore, it is alleged that the model was improperly excluded from previous brake-control software recalls issued by Ford.

As an initial measure, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has opened a defect petition to determine whether a formal investigation is warranted. This inquiry concerns an estimated 82,040 Ford Maverick Hybrid vehicles from the 2024 model year.

Recall After Recall

Since its market introduction, the Ford Maverick has been the subject of numerous safety recall campaigns in the United States. Notably, the 2024 model year alone has undergone 15 recalls since its launch. Most recently, in late May, a recall was issued for the Maverick and the Bronco Sport due to concerns that front lower control arm ball joints may have been improperly installed or repaired.

Additional recalls issued within the past 12 months include issues concerning malfunctioning trailer lights and brakes, as well as an October 2023 recall addressing a potential defect in the engine block heater, which could result in cracking and subsequent coolant leaks.
