United States all-electric carmaker, Tesla, has demonstrated how its latest Full Self-Driving (FSD) suites works in Austin, Texas in a 5-minute video posted to its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
In the video shared showing a Point of View (POV) from a driver with hands-off on the optional yoke steering wheel, the car appeared to drive smoothly along with traffic on public roads.
Now in software version 11.4.7 (beta), Tesla said that the hands-free “FSD capability features use vision neural networks to perceive & understand the world, just like humans do”, adding that it is able to collect anonymized data from its vehicles through its unique fleet learning approach.
The currently enabled Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving features on Tesla cars still requires active driver supervision as these features doesn’t make them fully-autonomous or self-driving cars.
Once the feature becomes fully viable, Tesla said cars equipped with the optional Full Self-Driving hardware worth $12,000 “will be able to drive itself almost anywhere with minimal driver intervention and will continuously improve.
Recall that German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, beat Tesla to SAE Level 3 driving in the United States with its Drive Pilot system fitted on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS Sedan.
