Porsche Macan EV Passengers Will Soon Be Able To Play Video Games

While we wait to one day be able to take our hands off the wheel and focus on something other than driving, especially on long, boring highway journeys, we need to find solutions to keep passengers occupied while the driver focuses on what they have to do. And while there’s no shortage of apps of all kinds on our smartphones, the company AirConsole has nevertheless sensed a potential opportunity by developing a program capable of integrating itself into the onboard screens of certain brands, particularly German ones.

BMW, Volkswagen, Audi , and even Mercedes have adopted this on-board “game console,” which is primarily played with a smartphone acting as a controller. Now, it’s Porsche’s turn to welcome AirConsole aboard the brand-new electric Macan. On the large central screen, or on the passenger screen for those who have validated the option at the time of purchase, it will even be possible to play with several people while driving. The driver, for his part, will obviously only be able to enjoy games with family or friends when the vehicle is stopped.

AirConsole is coming to Porsche in all markets with Porsche Connect, with the exception of China. France will also be affected. In practice, Macan owners will simply need to download the application via the Porsche App Center by the end of the year. Once the virtual game console is deployed on the large central screen on board the Macan, a QR code will be requested to pair your smartphone. Which will in fact serve as your game controller! “Porsche passengers will have access to an ever-growing catalog of racing games, challenges, and even sports ,” comments AirConsole. Of course, as soon as the Macan is in motion, the driver’s screen will return to driving mode.

To take advantage of Porsche’s AirConsole games, which can be played both single-player and multiplayer on board, customers must first select the passenger screen option, which still costs €1,440.
