Hongqi Guoli (L5), China’s Most Expensive Ultra-luxury Car Worth N2.5 Billion, Spotted In Nigeria

Hongqi Guoli (formerly L5), China’s most expensive ultra-luxury car worth over N2 billion, spotted in Delta State.

Priced from 7,180,000 RMB (US$1m) in China, Guoli will cost over N2b to own in Nigeria, including shipping and clearing cost.

Its main rival in the Chinese market is the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Rolls-Royce Phantom 8 and the Bentley Mulsanne.

A likely one-of-one Hongqi Guoli ultra-luxury sedan, renowned for being currently the ‘most expensive Chinese-made car ever available for purchase’, has been spotted in oil-rich Delta State, Nigeria, in a convoy of ultra-luxury cars.

This Chinese-built flagship sedan is priced from 7,180,000 Chinese Yuan (over US$ 1 million) in China, but it will cost over N2.5 billion to own in Nigeria, including the cost of shipping and clearing.

Stretched as much as the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended, Guoli offers limousine-like rear-seat legroom, allowing rear passengers to enjoy an outstanding level of comfort. It measures 5980mm in length, 2090mm in width, and 1710mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3730mm.

Hongqi Guoli

Dubbed as the “Rolls-Royce of China”, the Guoli, which means “national gift”, boasts giant vertical waterfall-style grille and a distinct round headlights which Hongqi says is inspired by the Chinese cultural tradition of “the sky is round and the earth is square”.

Released in 2013 at the Shanghai Auto Show and produced since 2014, the Hongqi Guoli was formerly known as the Hongqi L5 until the second-generation model of the flagship 4-door ultra-luxury sedan was renamed in April 2024.

Guoya’s main rival in the very lucrative Chinese market are the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Rolls-Royce Phantom 8 and the Bentley Mulsanne – though more expensive than the foreign models.

Before its availability in markets outside China, the Guoli, then known as the L5, was aimed at Chinese billionaire businessmen and super stars. It has also being used by President Xi Jinping opting for 18-foot armored Hongqi limousine, codenamed N701.
