The Lagos State Government has condemned the recent attack on a BRT bus operated by the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), and vowed to bring the perpetrators of this crime to book.

Mr Idowu Oguntona, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LBSL, who made this known in a statement noted that the recent trend of hoodlums attacking its buses and passengers has become both alarming and unacceptable.

“The Lagos State Government will not stand idly by and allow such acts of lawlessness and illicit acts to continue,” LBSL boss made this clear during an interactive session with the press at the LBSL headquarters in Ilupeju.

While recounting the attack on one of the company’s buses by hoodlums, Mr. Oguntona said :

“These criminals vandalized the bus and caused panic among the passengers. Such behaviour is inhumane, intolerable, and totally unacceptable.

“Mr. Oguntona stated that the bus, which was traveling from Mile 2 to Leventis, was approaching the Ore-Ofe bus stop on the Orile axis with 35 passengers on board when a large mob suddenly emerged and swarmed the bus.

“The attackers assaulted passengers, stabbed them with sharp objects, and robbed them of their phones and other valuables.

While reiterating the government’s commitment in ensuring that those responsible for this heinous act are punished, he noted that these criminals have no place in any decent society.

The LBSL boss also assured Lagosians that their safety remains LBSL’s top priority, adding that security agencies are actively pursuing the perpetrators of this crime.

“The Lagos State Government is committed to taking all necessary legal steps to protect residents and visitors. There is no need for fear; we assure all commuters of their safety while traveling on all public transportation platforms in Lagos State.
