How Do I Register A New Car In Nigeria?
Have you recently purchased a new vehicle and need to register it? Autojosh will provide you with the necessary instructions.
When you have finished reading this article, you will have a firm grasp on how to proceed.
The rules apply to brand new or foreign-owned automobiles, but not to Nigerian-owned or registered vehicles.
The stages to getting your new car registered are as follows:
- Pick up a “allocation of plate number” form from the State Board of Internal Revenue/Motor Licensing Authority (SBIR/MLA) and complete in all of the needed information.

- Upload all required documents and submit.
- After the authorities are satisfied, you must complete the following forms:
- Allocation of Registration Number of New Vehicle Form
- Auto vehicle License Form
- Form B
- Federal Road Safety Form
- Tax Form
- The completed forms and any accompanying documentation are then delivered to the licensing office’s designated police officer for verification, which is accomplished through the use of a verification stamp and the date mentioned on the form.
- Following the verification process, the next step is to pay for a license plate at a bank. The sum required is N50,000. It is, however, depends on the style of plate you desire.
- You will be needed to present your receipt after payment, and you will be given a plate number if one is available. A Proof of Ownership Certificate Number, a Proof of Ownership Certificate, and a Vehicle Identification Tag will be delivered to you (VIT).
- You will receive all of the original documents you provided back.
- The next step is to purchase car insurance coverage for the car.
