Hyundai Group Surpasses Volkswagen Group In Terms Of Profit
The largest South Korean vehicle manufacturer, the Hyundai Group, managed to overtake the struggling Volkswagen in terms of profit in 2025 for the first time in its history and take second place in the world behind the undisputed Toyota.
South Korea’s largest car manufacturer, Hyundai, overtook its big rival, the Volkswagen Group, in terms of operating profit last calendar year, local media report, and for the first time took second place in the world by that measure.
Operating profit is the profit that is realized when direct production costs, such as raw materials, supplies, and labor in factories, are deducted, and expenses that are not directly related to production, such as rent or utilities, are also subtracted.
The Hyundai Group, which includes the Korean KIA in addition to Hyundai Motors, accumulated an operating profit of 13.95 billion US dollars in 2025.
This is significantly more than the $9.7 billion (or €8.9 billion) achieved by the Volkswagen Group, which, in addition to the Golf and Passat manufacturers, also includes well-known German companies such as Porsche and Audi, as well as the Czech Skoda and the Spanish SEAT.
Although the results of the American “General Motors” do not attract the attention of the South Korean audience as much as the fact that “Hyundai” overtook the German corporation, which is also a symbol of quality and social status in that Far Eastern country (which especially applies to “Porsche” and “Audi” cars), it should be said that the Detroit giant also ranked ahead of “Volkswagen,” and with 12.7 billion, it ranks third in the world in terms of operating profit in 2025.
