Lagos Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge 80% Complete As Sanwo-Olu Promises Opening Before Holidays

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured motorists that the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge, also known as the Opebi-Odoiya Alaro Bridge, will be opened to vehicular traffic before the holiday season.
The governor gave the assurance during a recent inspection of the project site, explaining that the bridge’s opening had been delayed by the ongoing installation of a 25-metre steel monument designed to celebrate the area’s cultural heritage.

Sanwo-Olu recalled that he had earlier announced that the newly completed bridge would open by the end of September, based on the construction timeline presented to him. However, with work still ongoing, he visited the site to assess progress and understand the reasons behind the delay.
According to the governor, the monument is designed to preserve the history of Cane Village, an area formerly known for its cane market. Its design features four hands of cane weaving, representing the community’s traditional craft and providing a new landmark along the corridor.

Three of the monument’s four steel components have been fully assembled and installed, while work is ongoing on the final section. The installation has now reached approximately 80 per cent completion.
The governor explained that safety considerations remain the priority, stressing that the road cannot be opened to motorists until every section of the monument has been securely installed. He added that only a few more days of work were required to complete the installation.

“I understand the inconvenience this delay has caused motorists and I ask for a little more patience as we bring the project to completion. I assure you that the bridge will be fully operational before the holidays giving motorists a smoother journey and Lagos a new landmark,” Sanwo-Olu said qhile acknowledging the inconvenience caused to motorists by the delay.
Once opened, the strategic 5.04-kilometre transport corridor will provide a direct alternative corridor linking Opebi, Mende, Maryland, and Ojota. This link is expected to drastically reduce travel times and ease the perennial gridlock historically experienced along Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way.
