Lamborghini Diablo Custom-built For Donald Trump Sells For Whopping $1.1 Million At Auction
Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster custom-built for Donald Trump sells for a whopping $1.1 million (£870,000) at auction.
“World record” auction price set by the limited-edition Lamborghini Diablo VT is more than five times the car’s estimated value.
This Diablo has had two owners since the former US president parted with the scissor-door Diablo VT in 2002.
The seller paid $460,000 (around £360,000 at the time) to own the Italian supercar when it was sold in 2016.
A Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster custom built for ex-US president Donald Trump almost 30 years ago has sold for a staggering $1.1 million (£870,000) at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale Arizona.
One of just 132 made for the US market and delivered to Trump in 1997, the “world record” auction price set by the limited-edition Diablo VT with just 15,431 miles is more than five times the car’s estimated value.
The Diablo VT Roadster is finished in the brand’s ‘Blu Le Mans’ paint. Inside, it is finished in cream on black leather, while ‘Donald Trump 1997 Diablo’ plaque is mounted to the inside of the door.
It has had two owners since the former US president parted with the scissor-door Diablo VT in 2002. The seller paid $460,000 (around £360,000 at the time) to own the Italian supercar when it was sold in 2016.
John Mayhead, editor of the Hagerty Price Guide, told Daily Mail that the winning bid is five times what the Diablo VT is worth without a POTUS’s name on the history file.
“This car was unusual anyway, being a rare VT Roadster model with just three owners from new and 15,400 miles on the clock,” John told Daily Mail.
“But the sale price of $1.1million (£870,000) is five times the Hagerty Price Guide ‘excellent’ value of £174,000, meaning Donald Trump’s ownership had a huge impact on value.
“Each year, Hagerty publishes the Power List, showing the premium celebrity ownership has on car values. This sale puts Trump just below Jay Leno but above Simon Cowell in that list.”
The Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster model (VT stands for ‘Viscous Traction’), which arrived in 1995, was one of the rarest derivatives of the first-generation Diablo.
It is powered by a mid-mounted 5.7-litre V12 engine, which produces 492-horsepower. It will reach 60 mph from standstill in just 4.1 seconds and the top speed is a claimed 202 mph.
