LASG explain why over N440 million was spent on armored Lexus LX 600 luxury SUV for Chief Of Staff.
According to the DG, Public Procurement Agency, the procurement of the N440m bulletproof vehicle “is in tandem with current realities.”
LASG apologizes for the lack of detailed descriptions in the project information, which led to confusion in the public space.
Earlier this week, Funso Doherty, a Governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, raised alarm over the procurement deals awarded by the Lagos State Government.
In an open letter addressed to the Sanwo-Olu and shared on his X page, Doherty listed some projects that “require greater scrutiny”, including the over N440m budgeted for a brand new bulletproof Lexus LX 600 for use in the Pool of Office of Chief of Staff.
“Another sum of N440,750,000 was awarded to the office of the chief of staff for the “procurement of a brand new Lexus LX 600 Bullet Proof Sport Utility Vehicle for use in the Pool of Office of Chief,” Doherty wrote.
Commenting on the money spent on buying an armored Lexus LX 600 SUV for use in the Pool of Office of Chief, Doherty said :
“This appears excessive and is out-of-tune with both the prevailing economic circumstances and mood of the people. It should be srutinized as to the need and justification for such a vehicle purchase and also value-for-money.”
Reacting to the reports, the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, in a statement apologized for the lack of detailed descriptions in the project information, which inadvertently led to confusion in the public space.
While analyzing each of the deals, Mr Fatai Onafowote, the Director General, Public Procurement Agency, explained that the procurement of the N440,750m bulletproof vehicle “is in tandem with current realities.”
