New LASTMA Boss Urges Personnel To Be Civil, Shun Bribery
The newly appointed Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan has cautioned personnel of the Agency to be civil, demonstrate empathy and shun corruption in whatever guise while discharging their statutory duties on the road.
Mr. Oki disclosed this over the weekend at Oshodi while speaking to LASTMA Comptrollers, Commander and Zebras on his new vision and mission for the Agency.
The new Acting General Manager said it is a new dawn for traffic management in the State as the Agency would go all out to ensure that commuters have seamless experience traveling across the State.
Mr. Oki said he would not condone corruption or bribe-taking by any official, charging them to be civil when contravening traffic offenders.
Igbinedion University To Manufacture Light Weight Electric Mini Bus
Nigeria’s first private university, the Igbinedion University Okada in Edo State, has commenced the process of manufacturing Light Weight Electric Minibus.
Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, made this on Friday at the 21st convocation of the university, describing it as “the first by any university in the country. Research, development and innovation are critical to scholarship and knowledge production.”
“The university’s efforts in this regard received a boost with the ongoing design and fabrication of Light Weight Electric Minibus, which will ultimately lead to the manufacture of light weight vehicles.”
Niger/Kogi Customs Showcase 11 Smuggled Cars, Including A Range Rover With Diplomatic Plate Number
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Customs Area Command, has showcased goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N56,661,598.00 (N56.6 million), which the command intercepted in the month of November 2023.
The Niger/Kogi Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Busayo Kadejo, made this disclosure during a press briefing on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, at the Command headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Regarding anti-smuggling, the Kadejo noted that the Command arrested a smuggled 2019 Model Range Rover Velar SUV with a Diplomatic Vehicle Registration Plate Number, which he said was treacherous and connoted a risky security implication.
In addition to the Range Rover, he also reported the seizures of other exotic cars including a Lexus RX 330 Crossover SUV, totaling eleven (11) units of various makes.
LAMATA At 20 : Lagos To Deploy 1000 Electric Buses By 2025, Red Line To Begin Service In Q2 2024
On November 30th, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) held a Press conference, which was streamed live on its official Facebook page, as part of the agency’s 20th anniversary celebration.
During the event, LAMATA boss, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, said about 1000 Electric Buses will be deployed in the next 24 months to further demonstrate the commitment of the Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to the Transportation and Traffic Management pillar of the THEMES+ agenda.
To explore alternative fuel for urban mobility, she also disclosed that the state is piloting the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), adding that 10 CNG buses are already being used on selected BRT corridors to test their adaptability to public transport.
