Malaysian King Gifted China’s Most Expensive Car, The Retro-style Hongqi L5 Limo Worth $691,000
Malaysian King becomes the first person in the world to own China’s most expensive car, the Hongqi L5 limousine.
Sultan Ibrahim was presented with the Hongqi L5 on April 12th during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia.
At 5,000,000 yuan ($691,000), the Hongqi L5 is the most expensive Chinese-made car available for purchase.
While its predecessor was aimed at Chinese billionaire businessmen, the latest-gen is will be available “for everyone”.
King of Malaysia, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar has become the first non-Chinese person in the world to own China’s most expensive ultra-luxury car, the stately Hongqi L5 limousine.
Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar was presented with the retro-styled Hongqi L5 on April 12th during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, which was also attended by FAW Hongqi Global president, Wang Lingyu.
Photos of the retro-styled car were shared on Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar’s Facebook page, where he was seen checking out the features of the latest addition to his impressive car collection.

“China is an important global economic power and a large trading partner of Malaysia,” the King wrote, while providing his views on the direction of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia and the need to identify more cooperation opportunities.
Hongqi L5
With a sticker price of 5,000,000 yuan ($691,000 as at today), the Hongqi L5 is the most expensive Chinese-made car available for purchase. It is even more expensive than Rolls-Royce’s flagship car, the Phantom 8.
The latest-gen Hongqi L5 flagship sedan made its debut in April 2023 at the 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (or Auto Shanghai 2023), replacing its predecessor that arrived in 2013.
While its predecessor was aimed at Chinese billionaire businessmen and super stars, the latest-generation of this unique Chinese-built Hongqi L5 is will be available “for everyone”.
