Mercedes-Benz Goes Into Robotics As “Apollo” Is Unveiled (Video)

Mercedes-Benz has invested significantly in the American company Apptronik, known for developing humanoid robots, to improve its production processes.
Currently, Apptronik’s robots called Apollo are being tested in factories in Berlin (Germany) and Kecskemét (Hungary), with the aim of automating repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
The Apollo robots, which are 173 cm tall and weigh 73 kg, can carry a load of up to 25 kg. Their primary tasks include moving components onto the production line and performing initial quality checks on parts. These robots are trained via teleoperation and augmented reality, which allows them to learn specific tasks that they can later perform autonomously. If they run out of power, they can plug themselves into a charger and recharge.
The introduction of humanoid robots like Apollo allows Mercedes-Benz to automate tasks that are repetitive or dangerous, especially in areas where there is a labor shortage. The technology allows employees to focus on more complex and creative tasks, while robots take over more physically demanding jobs.
Although the Apollo robots are currently in the testing phase, Mercedes-Benz plans to expand their application to other production sites in the future, depending on the results of current testing.
