BMW Has Patented A Novel Technique That Allows Plug-In Hybrids To Be Charged In Just A Minute!

Charging at stations may soon be a thing of the past. BMW’s latest advancements suggest that plug-in hybrid cars could charge in just one minute.
The system combines a supercapacitor with a traditional battery. The goal is to achieve a full charge in just one minute. Car manufacturers are constantly looking for new methods, and the goal is to speed up the charging of electric cars and plug-in hybrids.
A supercapacitor differs from a battery in several ways and can be charged and discharged extremely quickly when needed. It can also deliver very high power output in a short time. This has made the technology enjoyable in various contexts. Formula 1 cars, for example, use similar systems. The technology is already being used in the automotive industry today. The Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 uses supercapacitor-hybrid technology. Smaller supercapacitors are also found in some electric cars. This applies to models from German and South Korean brands. However, BMW takes the technology a step further with its patented combination.
The system is also designed to harvest energy. This is achieved through regenerative braking, where kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy, improving the system’s overall efficiency. According to BMW, there is hope for optimizing the system. It could potentially be adapted to other types of vehicles. Buses and trains are also mentioned in the context of the benefits of this technology. We will see what happens with this patent and whether it will ever get a chance in production vehicles.
