Mercedes-Benz Recalls Over 200 AMG-One Models Due To Fire Hazards
The German Federal Motor Vehicle Agency (KBA) has recalled 219 AMG models produced between December 2022 and May 2025. This vehicle features a 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine and hybrid technology adapted from Formula 1. Despite its advanced design, it must return for inspection due to a minor oversight.
The problem arises because, without the lock properly installed, hydraulic fluid from the active rear wing system can leak onto hot parts near the engine, with potentially catastrophic consequences. While the failure may not seem dramatic, in the context of a three-million-dollar vehicle and a series limited to 275 units, 183 of which were registered in Germany—it is a serious situation.
The Mercedes-AMG One has already suffered two serious fires in less than two years, adding to the concerns raised by the latest recall. The first incident was in May 2023, when a car completely burned down in a transport trailer while being transported in the UK. The second occurred more recently, earlier this month, on a German road near Oldenburg, where the car caught fire.
However, Mercedes has some reassuring news for ultra-rich owners. The solution is simple: authorized service centers will check whether the vehicle has the appropriate fuse on the hydraulic supply and install it if it is missing. There is no need to disassemble the car at all.
Recall, the Mercedes-AMG One was presented as a concept back in 2017. The development was laborious and repeatedly delayed because the conversion of the F1 powertrain for road use required engineering marvels. The Mercedes-AMG One has 1063 hp and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 352 km/h.
