Mercedes Plans To Establish Its First Research Facility In Hungary

The German company Mercedes-Benz will open its first research and development centre (R&D) in Hungary, in the city of Kecskemét, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó announced.

He added that car prototypes will be tested at this location, as well as that Hungarian engineers will be involved in the early stages of hardware and software development, the Hungarian Times reports.

The German carmaker will invest around 55 million euros (approximately 21.6 billion forints) in the new R&D centre, where early hardware and software product development will take place. The government in Budapest will support the project with an additional 11 million euros (approximately 4.3 billion forints).

Szijártó mentioned that during the last eleven years, the Hungarian government has supported the investments of 324 German companies, which created about 40,000 jobs.





According to him, there is strong global competition for investments in the electric vehicle industry, and Hungary, despite its size, is among the leading countries in the technological revolution that is changing the world economy.
