Drug Cartel Threats : Head Of NDLEA Kano Command Alights From A Customized Armored Bus

Trending videos shared online showing the head of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command, Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, alighting from a customized armored bus has generated different opinions among netizens.
In comments read by Autojosh, most of the users thinks that the armored vehicle is a wasteful spending for a public office holder in a struggling country like Nigeria, though Autojosh thinks otherwise.
Due to the level of danger from drug cartels and other criminal organizations, the use of armored vehicles is one of the strong security measures implemented by NDLEA to protect its agents.
In addition to the bullet-resistant glass and reinforced structure, this bus boasts an ‘inner door’ made of heavy-gauge steel to create another secure barrier within the bus. It is designed to further protect passenger compartment in high-risk areas while opening the main sliding door.
Nigeria Police Replies NBA : “Tinted Glass Permit Policy Is Not Illegal, Backed By Law”

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reacted to the recent media report that Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has sued the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, over the Tinted Glass Permit policy, who labeled the move as illegal.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, NPF noted that it is aware of a Punch Newspaper publication of 5th September, 2025 reporting that the NBA has dragged the Inspector-General of Police to court over tinted-glass permit policy.
“It is pertinent to set the records straight to avoid misinformation to the good citizens of Nigeria on the legality of the issuance of tinted permits by the Police.”
“Section 2(3a) of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004 empowers the Inspector-General of Police or any person duly authorised by him to grant or approve the permit.
“Furthermore, Section 1(2) of the same Act provides that an applicant must show good cause either on health grounds or for security reasons before the use of tinted glass can be approved.
“The essence of this regulation is consistent with the core mandate of the Police to prevent crimes, as the permit is a critical tool for curbing violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism, and one chance operations.”
“In the same vein, it is important to clarify that the charges attached to the acquisition of the permit are purely processing fee and for the maintenance of the digital infrastructure deployed for this service.”
