Next-Generation Apple CarPlay To Control All Screens And All Sensors
Porsche and Aston Martin have unveiled a preview of the upcoming changes to Apple CarPlay. Unlike the current iteration, the next-gen CarPlay will extend its influence beyond the central display, encompassing the instrument cluster and additional screens.
While retaining the familiar app drawer on the central display, Apple’s projection feature now extends its reach to the three-dial layout behind the steering wheel and even the passenger display.
The upgraded CarPlay will leverage the car’s sensors, tapping into data such as outside temperature, tire pressure, gear status, and engine speed. Apple assures that, despite this integration, iPhones will neither store nor track this data.
The goal is to make the iPhone completely take over from the car’s default infotainment system and digital gauges. With this advanced CarPlay, you can expect a new level of personalization, featuring color themes and layouts independent of the vehicle but stored securely on your phones.
Aston Martin echoes this sentiment with a glimpse into its adaptation of the enhanced CarPlay. While showcasing only two displays—the digital gauge and the traditional central touchscreen—the British automaker underlines the diverse customization opportunities available. The contrast between Porsche and Aston Martin showcases the flexibility and adaptability of the technology, promising a seamless experience irrespective of the vehicle brand.
While Porsche remains tight-lipped about the models set to debut this new CarPlay, Aston Martin reveals it will be standard in the new DB12.
