Nigerian Motorists To Pay More For Number Plates, Driver’s Licence From November 1st 2024
Both private and commercial vehicle owners to pay more for number plates, driver’s licence from November 1st 2024.
Follows the approval of new rates for the issuance of national driver’s licences and vehicle number plates by Joint Tax Board (JTB).
Vehicle owners to pay a minimum of ₦30k for a standard private vehicle number plate and a standard commercial vehicle number plate.
Fancy number plates and dealer motor vehicle number plate now ₦400k and ₦100k respectively, while motorcycle number plates will cost ₦12,000.
The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has approved new rates for the issuance of national driver’s licences and vehicle registration plates (number plates), effective from November 1st 2024.
In a circular sighted by BusinessDay, Olusegun Adesokan, the secretary of JTB, stated that the approval for the increased rates was subject to the ability of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to adequately educate and sensitise the public about the increment.
According to the newly revised rate, vehicle owners will now pay a minimum of ₦30,000 for a standard private vehicle number plate and a standard commercial vehicle number plate.
Also, fancy number plates and dealer motor vehicle number plate will now cost ₦400,000 and ₦100,000 respectively, while motorcycle number plates will cost ₦12,000.
Under the revised rates, vehicle owners will now pay ₦15,000 for a three-year vehicle driver’s licence and ₦21,000 for a five-year licence, while motorcycle/tricycle drivers will pay ₦7,000 and ₦11,000 for the said period respectively.
In addition, the government fancy number plate and government standard number plates will now cost ₦120,000 and ₦80,000 respectively, while government fancy motorcycle number plate and government standard motorcycle number plate will now be ₦50,000 and ₦20,000 respectively.
