Nissan Will No Longer Accept US Orders For Two Mexican-Made Infiniti SUVs

Japanese automaker Nissan has announced that it will no longer accept orders from the United States for two Infiniti SUV models (QX50 and QX55) produced in Mexico.

According to the company’s statement, the production of models sold in other markets will continue, according to Reuters reports. As a reminder, US President Donald Trump previously introduced 25 percent import tariffs on all cars manufactured outside the United States.

Nissan also said it will maintain two shifts of production for the Rogue SUV in the US state of Tennessee, a change from January when it announced it would eliminate one of the shifts.

The Japanese automaker appointed former Chief Planning Officer Ivan Espinoza as the company’s new CEO in March, and he took office on April 1.

Nissan is struggling with weak sales in its main markets, the United States and China, and its profit fell by more than 90 percent in the nine months to February, Kyodo reported.

Many analysts believe that Nissan cannot survive in the market alone and believe that it will be forced to form partnerships with other companies such as Taiwan’s Foxconn, the Japanese agency adds.
