Crews used cranes to remove as many as 90 vehicles scattered on the structure’s buckled top deck.

Cleanup process continued Friday as cars are being plucked one by one from the debris, according to report.





One person has been reportedly killed and at least five workers injured when a multistorey parking garage collapsed in Lower Manhattan in New York city on Tuesday afternoon.

As covered by abc7ny, the century old parking garage collapsed without warning, injuring 5 garage workers and killing the manager, Willis Moore. In addition, dozens of vehicles parked were also crushed.





Investigation into the cause of the collapse is still ongoing, but New York city officials believed that the weight of the cars parked on the roof deck plus the age of the building contributed to the collapse.

Crews used cranes to remove as many as 90 vehicles scattered on the structure’s buckled top deck, a cleanup process that reportedly continued till Friday as cars were being plucked one by one from the debris.

According to abc7ny, the general plan is to remove the approximately 90 cars. It is assumed that the removal process will result in all the cars being totaled, but owners will be able to claim them if they choose.

The collapsed Manhattan parking garage has long record of structural issues. A controlled demolition of the garage could take up to 25 days, according to the contract signed by the private contractor.
