Overcast Skies Above Chrysler: “New SUV Development Delayed”

Published

on

The rumblings around Chrysler continue. Now there is another bad sign for the future of the brand: development of a new SUV has reportedly been halted with immediate effect.

Chrysler has had to do without new models for quite some time now. In fact, in North America, it still sells the sedate Pacifica and Voyager, but there is nothing else. With the Halycon Concept, we got to hear a promising piece of future music about an electric liftback from the brand just a year ago. With the Chrysler Airflow Concept, the brand also looked ahead to a new SUV like two years earlier. The latter should herald Chrysler’s’renaissance’ in the fairly short term, but now there is bad news.

MoparInsiders has intercepted an email from Chrysler’s parent company Stellantis to suppliers explaining that development of the production version, provisionally dubbed ‘C6X’, has been halted ‘until further notice’. Suppliers are being instructed to immediately turn off the funding for the project. Maybe it won’t be that bad and things will eventually just resume, but that doesn’t sound good, especially since there have been recent alarms in the US and the great-grandson of Chrysler’s founder has spoken about ‘ saving Chrysler ‘. Maybe Tavares’ departure is good news for the brand after all.
