Photo Of The Day : The then luxury cars at Ikoyi Club car park in the early 1960’s.
A trending picture snapped at Ikoyi Club 1938 car park has given us a glimpse of some of the best rides that once ruled and plied the Nigerian highways in the 1960s to the late 1970s.
Back then, the Ikoyi Club 1938 was the largest and most active recreational/social club in West Africa and its members included not just anyone, but top CEOs as well as the well-to-do’s in the society.
The most popular car captured in the rare footage is the now iconic Volkswagen Beetle, popularly known as Ijapa in this part of the world, while a model from Renault was also spotted.
The Ikoyi Club 1938 officially came into being on September 29th, 1938, through the merger of the European Club and Lagos Golf Club, occupying 456 acres and providing facilities for about 10,000 members.
