Nigeria’s outgoing President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday May 23rd 2023 unveiled the Second Niger Bridge. The new bridge links Asaba in Delta State to Onitsha in Anambra State and other regions in the South-East.
Buhari, who performed the opening via Zoom, said the bridge was one of the critical infrastructures delivered by his administration to fight poverty, promote economic growth and ensure progress for the people.
The new 1.6 kilometers-long bridge was officially named after President Muhammadu Buhari by the Governors of the south-east region of Nigeria.


“Following consultations, the governors of the South-east have agreed that the second Niger Bridge shall be named after the Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge,” Tolu Ogunlesi, a media aide to Mr Buhari posted on his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.
The Second Niger Bridge spans from Asaba in Delta State, south-south Nigeria to Ozubulu, Ogbaru and other communities in Anambra State, South-east Nigeria.
